How it started

Sunset in Bovisa

Narvalo was born as a project of the Design School of the Politecnico di Milano, created by the young Dutch-borndesigner, Ewoud Westerduin. His thesis supervisor and Professor of theDepartment of Design, Venanzio Arquilla, recognised the potential of the project and continued to support Ewoud in further development from September 2018 onwards.

Later the idea was incubated by POLIHUB, as part of the Switch to Product initiative. The program enhances innovative solutions, new technologies, and business ideas proposed by students, researchers and professors of the Politecnico di Milano.

Narvalo circulates the Polytechnic innovation system and was selected as a "talent in residence" in POLIFACTORY, the Maker Space and Fablab of the Politecnico di Milano. Here the first prototypes were made.
The project embodies the Third Mission of the Politecnico di Milano, which aims to favour the social, economic and cultural development of its reference territory: Bovisa.

The air filtration technology is developed together with BLS, a Milanese boutique company born in Bovisa and specialised in the design and manufacturing of masks and respiratory protection devices.
